Ritchie trained in a Big 4 firm with a portfolio which was a mixture of personal, corporate and professional partnership clients. After qualifying as a Chartered Tax Adviser, he spent 15 years at at a top 10 firm as part of the management taxes team which looked after M&A tax work and employee incentive plans.
During his time at a top 10 firm, Ritchie shared responsibility for maintaining the firm’s share plan precedent document library and was part of the knowledge management team monitoring the employment-related securities rules. Work ranged across private and listed companies, venture capital and private equity backed businesses and subsidiaries of non-UK companies.
After a stint in a national tax technical support team and their head of tax valuations, Ritchie joined Azets to get back to offering broad tax support to local businesses alongside providing specialist advice around all types of share-related transactions. The specialist work includes designing and implementing bespoke employee incentive plans and navigating all sorts of M&A transactions but extends to fund raises, venture capital reliefs, succession planning and employee ownership trusts. Share valuation is a key component of this work and he also undertakes valuation modelling as an integral part of the process.
Ritchie is current chair of the South Wales branch of the CIOT and Vice Chair of the CIOT’s Welsh Taxes technical sub-committee. He also edits Croner-i’s on-line tax valuation material.
